The Kingdom Plantae is split into a number of phyla:

The phylum Angiospermophyta comprises the flowering plants and is split into two classes on the basis of the number of seed-leaves (cotyledons):

(i) Monocotyledones - one seed-leaf. Lacks midrib vein with branching veins. Veins run parallel along the length of the leaf. Flower has 4-6 sepals and/or petals. Flowers are often drab green or brown.

 

 


 

(ii) Dicotyledones - two seed leaves. Leaves have a midrib with branching veins.Flower has 4-5 sepals and/or petals.
